BELARUS TAKES PART IN INTERNATIONAL FURNITURE EXHIBITION MOBITEX IN CZECH REPUBLIC

The Republic of Belarus is taking part in the international exhibition of furniture and articles of interior design MOBITEX which is being held on March 16-20 in Brno, the Czech Republic.

According to the information of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Belarus, Belarus is presented by the Novopolotsk company - Interforest. The company launched its production in July 2004 and specializes in manufacture of glued materials made of wood and lumber. According to the Foreign Ministry, the Brno exhibition displays products of 269 companies including 66 foreign firms from 15 countries. The total area occupied by the exhibition stands is 13,400 square meters.

BELLESBUMPROM COMPANIES GROW OUTPUT IN JANUARY 2005

Enterprises under Bellesbumprom Concern rolled out BYR 101.7 billion worth of produce in comparable prices in January 2005, which is 8.8% up on the corresponding period of last year.

The concern exceeded the targeted level and produced an additional amount of BYR 2.6 billion worth of merchandise and BYR 644.9 billion worth of consumer goods.

In January Bellesbumprom enterprises exported $25.8 million worth of goods, 26% up on January 2004. In turn, import volumes stood at $25.8 million, 17% up on the respective period of last year.

This year’s export, import and foreign currency proceeds are expected to grow 9-10% on 2004.

In 2004 foreign currency proceeds soared 85.2% (against the 2004 target of 111-112%) to $329.1 million.

Return on sales equalled 8.4%, the 2004 target being 12%. Specialists put the failure to meet the target down to the lack of floating assets.

BELARUS’ GOVT SETS ADDITIONAL EXPORT DUTIES ON 15 TYPES OF TIMBER

 

MINSK, Feb 16 (Prime-Tass) -- The Belarusian government has included 15 types of timber and lumber on the list of goods subject to export duties in order to encourage domestic woodworking, in accordance with ruling #159 of the Council of Ministers dated February 15, 2005.

In accordance with the documents, starting Wednesday the export duty on fuel wood is to be set at 10 euros per one cubic meter, on ties and saw-timber at above five euros per one cubic meter and on unedged timber at 30 euros per one cubic meter.

Duties on other types of timber [bars, beams, etc.] are to be set at between eight and 30 euros per one cubic meter depending on the width and degree of processing.

The introduction of duties will allow increasing budget revenues and encourage domestic woodworking sector.

In 2004 companies with the Forestry Ministry increased exports of timber 39.5% on the year to U.S. $61.9 million. End
