Metallurgical Plant (BMZ, Zhlobin, Gomel Region) raised steel production by 10.4%
in January-February 2005 to 331.8 thousand tons. During
that period the plant turned out 278.5 thousand tons of rolled metal (2.3%
up), 13 thousand tons of metal cord (6% up). In
January-February 2005 the company’s output in comparable prices made BYR
372.9 billion, 12.5% up compared to the same period last year. The
value of goods exported in January-February 2005 totalled $160.4 million, 40%
up on the year. Belarusian
Metallurgical Plant, the largest Belarusian steel works, was commissioned in
1984. Now it employs around 15,000 people. The
company specializes in various metal ware such as cast intermediates, shaped
iron, profiled and reinforcement metal, metal cord, and other types of wire. BMZ
exports over 85% of the make, with over 70% of exports falling on countries
outside the CIS. 25/02/2005 Belarusian Metallurgical Plant
TO BOOST OUTPUT IN 2005
(on
the information from Interfax) RUE Belarusian Metallurgical Plant (BMZ, Zhlobin,
Gomel Region) is planning to raise the output by 6% to 1.7 million tons, the
plant’s economy director Alexei Nikiforov said at a press conference on
February 24. Modernisation will enable the plant to boost the
production and sales of high-quality steels, rolled metal and hardware. In 2005 the plant is planning to gain a profit of
$900 million, 10% more than in 2004. Export is expected to grow 10.5% to a
total of $750 million, the output of consumer goods is expected to reach BYR
15.8 billion (9% up). In 2005 the company’s sales profitability is
expected to fall from 40% to 30% as a result of growing raw stuff and energy
source prices. The source remarked, metal produce prices have reached their
peak and can no longer increase. The source informed, in 2005-2006 the plant will
continue the reconstruction of metallurgical and hardware production, with
particular emphasis placed on high-tech produce – armature rolled metal and
extra-firm metal cord. It is planned to invest $65 million in the
modernisation of hardware production and $23.5 million in metallurgical
production. In addition, in 2005-2007 there will be installed a tube-rolling
unit with the annual capacity of 300,000 tons costing $152.1 million. The project will be financed at the cost of the
plant’s own funds, long-term credits and state allocations. The Belarusian Metallurgic Plant, the largest
Belarusian metal producer, was commissioned in 1984. The company specialises in various metal ware such
as cast intermediates, shaped iron, profiled and reinforcement metal, metal
cord, and other types of wire. The company buys feedstock in Belarus and the CIS
countries. In January 2005 BMZ raised steel output by 9.3%
against January 2004 to 173,800 tons. Besides, the plant produced 142,000
tons of rolled metal (0.5% up on the year), 16,900 tons of hardware (12.8% up),
including 7,200 tons of metal cord (7.5% up). The plant’s output totalled BYR
191.1 billion in comparable prices (13.2% up). 23/02/2005 Belarus’
govt creates group to deal with pipe production at BMZ
MINSK, Feb 22 (Prime-Tass) -- The Belarusian government
has created a special workgroup to coordinate the organization of seamless
pipe production at the Zhlobin-based Belarusian Metallurgical Plant (BMZ)
worth U.S. $150 million, a government official told Prime-Tass Tuesday. First Deputy Industry Minister Ivan Demidovich has
been appointed head of the group. Demidovich is to head the tender commission, which
is to find the supplier of a pipe producing facility and production
technology. The supplier is to be defined by March. First Deputy Economy Minister Vladimir Naidunov and
BMZ director general, Nikolai Andrianov, have been appointed deputy heads of
the workgroup The group is to work out and approve the schedule of
the construction of the seamless pipe producing units at BMZ, estimate the
business plan of the project and architecture plan of the construction and
facilitate the customs clearance of the goods necessary to complete the
construction. The project will enable Belarus to produce 250,000 -
280,000 tonnes of pipes per year, which accounts for 1.5% of the world’s
total seamless pipe output. BMZ plans to export its products to Asia-Pacific
Region, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Middle East. State-controlled Belarusian Metallurgical Plant was
launched in 1984. BMZ exports about 85% of its output. The CIS accounts for
more than 70% of BMZ’s exports. BMZ’s output in 2004 amounted to 1.579 million tones
of rolled stock, up 10.9% on the year, 1.776 million tonnes of steel, up
12.9% on the year and 186,500 tonnes of hardware goods, up 21.6% on the year,
including metal cord output at 78,700 tonnes, up 21.5% on the year. The
output in monetary terms amounted to 1.568 trillion Belarusian rubles in
2004, up 15.1% on the year. End (2,165 Belarusian rubles - U.S. $1) 16/02/2005 Belarusian
plant Bahco Bisov sees sales up on year in 2005
MINSK, Feb 16 (Prime-Tass) -- Belarus’ Minsk-based
Bahco Bisov closed joint-stock company, a 100% subsidiary of Sweden’s holding
Bahco Group AB, which makes bimetal band saws, expects to increase its sales in
2005 comparing with 2004 figures, Director of Bahco Instruments Sergei Veksha
told Prime-Tass Thursday. The plant is the only producer of bimetal saws in
the CIS. The company plans to increase sales of band saws
33.3% on the year in 2005 to 2.4 million meters, while sales revenues are to
rise 40.6% to U.S. $4.5 million. The expected rise is attributed to sales of ring
saws, a new product launched in late 2004. Ring saw sales are expected to
reach 1.1 million units in 2005, a rise of 120% on the year. Sales proceeds
are to hit $2 million. The ring saw production facility worth $10 million
with an annual capacity of 1.2-1.5 million items was launched last autumn.
Tools of the kind had been produced only by the British branch of Bahco Group
AB. Commenting on the extension of the company’s
production, Director of the plant Lars Karman said the Belarusian facility
will allow increasing the competitive power of Bahco ring saws in the world.
“The holding continues investing in the Belarusian plant to consolidate its
position on the world market and create a reliable technological chain,”
Karman said. Earlier, the company produced only bimetal band saw
blades, with an annual capacity standing at 2.2 million meters. Since the plant was established in 1991 with a capacity
of 0.8 million meters of saw blades, Bahco Group AB has invested more than
$15 million in it. The company produces 10-41 millimeter wide bimetal
band saws and 14-210 millimeter wide ring saws for cutting sections of
ferrous and non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, titanium alloys and
non-metallic materials. Currently the plant exports 90% of its output to
Western Europe; the rest is sold in the CIS. Belarus accounts for 5% of all
sales. Bahco Group AB holds 98% in Bahco Bisov, while
Belarusian Bahco Instruments, which is Bahco Bisov’s sales division, holds
the remaining 2%. End 14/02/2005 Belarus’
Grodno meatpacking plant’s 2004 investments at 6.8 bln rbl
MINSK, Feb 14 (Prime-Tass) -- Belarus’ Grodno-based
meatpacking plant, one of the largest meatpacking factories in Belarus,
invested 6.8 billion Belarusian rubles in production upgrade in 2004, a
source with the administration of the plant told Prime-Tass Monday. The company replaced a cutter, boiling and smoking
chambers, a compressor, as well as weighing and thermoshaping equipment. The upgrade was financed by Belarus’ largest bank
Belarusbank, which had signed a financial leasing agreement with the plant. In 2005 the company plans to complete the
reconstruction of the refrigerator and build a new laboratory. This year the
upgrade will require 2 million euros of the company’s own funds and loans. The plant needs a new lab after it introduced ISO
9000, ISO 9001 and HASSP standards in 2003. The plant was founded in 1912 and transformed into a
joint-stock company in 1996. The state holds 9.21% in the company, the
remaining part belongs to individuals and state farms. Grodno meat-packing
plant’s meat output amounted to 17,900 tonnes in 2004, up 4.8% on the year,
sausage output reached 12,500 tonnes in the period, up 29% on the year, meat
semis output was at 3,500 tonnes, up 31%. |
