BELARUS: SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

      Significant economic growth and its beneficial impact on the social development of the country are acknowledged by the World Bank in the Country Economic Memorandum “Belarus: Window of Opportunity to Enhance Competitiveness and Sustain Economic Growth” of 10 June 2005. The document reveals, in particular, that gains of the economic growth are widely distributed across different layers of the population. The structure of Belarusian economic growth is not typical of the transitional economies, and the Belarusian people gained more than neighbour countries’. SERGEI SIDORSKIY: BELARUS EXPORTS USD 50-100 MILLION WORTH OF INFORMATION PRODUCTS YEARLY

Setting up of Silicone Valley’s analogue in Belarus will both promote the national science and strengthen Belarusian export of software and technologies, Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Sidorskiy told on August 2 during the meeting dedicated to the draft decree “On park of high technologies 'Intellectual Belarus”.

According to the Prime Minister, Belarus, which is leading among other European states in the software development, has gained certain experience in stimulation of information technologies development. In particular, Belarusian State University founded a Centre of Information Technologies which proved to be effective. Thus, over the last two years, its associated members issued Br78 billion worth of information products. According to experts, annual exports of information products from Belarus range from USD 50 to USD 100 million.


BELARUSIAN STATE UNIVERSITY LAUNCHES ONLINE R & D CATALOGUE

Belarusian State University launched online internet resource on export-oriented scientific research and development products at www.bsuproduct.by.

The Catalogue includes information on devices, hardware-software complexes, equipment, tools, substances and materials, industrial technologies and biotechnologies

International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) and the United Institute of Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (UIIP NASB) organize the International Conference on Advanced Information and Telemedicine Technologies for Health – AITTH’2005, which will be held in Minsk (Belarus) on November 8-10, 2005.

The Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange Opened

 

The Republic of Belarus aims to refine the domestic and foreign trade regulations and rules and develop the organized wholesale markets of commodities. To this particular end, the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange was set up, the founders being the Ministry of Economy, Belarusian State Concern of Material Resources “Belresursy”, Insurance Enterprise “Beleximgarant”, JSSB “Belarusbank”.

 

Today, the Exchange operates a wood stock section and a metal section and is set to launch sections of agricultural produce and oil products.

 

The first auction was held on 2 June 2005 at the wood stock section. Another auction to sell exports of pine and birch pulpwood will take place on 24 June 2005 in the Auctions Hall, 4th floor, 2 ul.Kazintsa, Minsk, Belarus.

 

At the same time, the Exchange is involved in preparing the first auction of the metal section which will follow shortly.
