OPTICO-MECHANICAL INDUSTRY
In the past
the optical-mechanical industry was, in fact, the part of the defense
complex. This industry continues to manufacture products developed in
its time for military purposes, but now it is oriented towards peaceful
application spheres. The industry includes 10 enterprises manufacturing
science-intensive products, including products for cosmic purposes:
video projection equipment, observation devices, desktop and portable
semi-tone scanners, photographic cameras, slide projectors, graphical
projectors, day and night sightseeing devices, machines for processing
optical parts, vacuum installations for coating optics, ceramics,
metal, metal-cutting machines, high- and low-voltage compressors for
refrigeration machines, and medical equipment using lasers.
The Belarusian Optico-Mechanical Amalgamation
(BelOMO) in Minsk manufactures cosmic and
aviation topographic photographic equipment, cinema and phototheodolites
for measuring the path of flying objects, photogrammetric equipment,
devices and range-finders, including equipment based on lasers, day and
night sighting devices, medical equipment, telescopes, night-vision
devices, and super wide-angle lenses.
Optik Lida Plant manufactures special-purpose optical parts, optical and
spectacle blanks, spectacle lenses, and fibre-optical products.
The Smorgon Plant of Optical Machine-Tool Building manufactures machines for processing optical
parts, vacuum installations for coating optical parts, metal-cutting
machines, hydraulic pumps for automotive machinery, labelling machines,
and machines for cutting glass, quartz and ceramics.
